EDIT: 10/23/12. You can now download the .PSD file.

EDIT: 9/11/12. I've added 144 more colors, changed the naming and layout, fixed the shading again, and given the pallet a more pleasing appearance! Note: If you were using the old swatch pallet, the new color names and shadows will NOT match the old ones. If you need a copy of the previous version of this pallet, send me a message.

Some people had requested a copy of a my swatch pallet. Sorry, I don't remember who- so I'll just post it for the whole bloody internets. ^_^ This is the same pallet I use for coloring Anthronauts and pretty much everything else. I filter it for different effects when alternate lighting is called for.

This swatch pallet was optimized for cell shading. Every color comes in a set of four swatches: highlight, base color, shadow color, and linework/deep shadow color. The lighting on these swatches is vibrant and intended to mimic the appearance of a bright, sunny day. You can apply photo filters or modify the swatches to create different lighting effects. I tried to arrange them from light to dark, low saturation to high saturation within their hue set.

Feel free to use, modify, and redistribute this swatch pallet. Just don't claim it as your own!

I have a question about this. If I wanted to make my own in the custom spaces, how would you recommend I go about picking shades?
I just recently started working with GIMP, and I'm not very good at shading. I would like to know if there's any way that will make it easier to pick out shades and highlights for certain colors (I'm aware there is a dodge/burn tool, but some of the colors look rather funny when shaded with that, and I would prefer to use the pencil/paint tools anyway).

Hmmm. The method I used to make the shading and highlights is actually rather complex... I decided that it would be easier for me to just upload the .PSD file than explain the filters I used. Please click "download" to the side of the image to see the PSD file. There is a layer group within it called "Color Effects" that contains the filters I used to make the shadows and highlights.

I'm not completely sure if GIMP can apply the correct filters. If I can't, I recommend making the shadows darker and slightly tinted purple, and the highlights a bit brighter and tinted yellow. Just be sure to go really really lightly on the purple and yellow!

Okay, I can try that. I do like a lot of the colors on this though, so I might just switch the ones I've already used.
The only reason I asked was because I'm writing a fan-comic and I wanted to use the same colors as the canon show does. I'm just going to mess around with it and see what works best, I guess.
Thanks for the tips. :D

There should be colors that are close to hose used in the show. Though if you're doing My Little Pony, these colors and their shadows will not match well enough.

Haha, no. I'm actually doing Adventure Time. Some of them actually match enough to use the ones you've done, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to make my own eventually. CX
Anyway, I got a page done this morning thanks to this. I really appreciate it.
